Kolburne Announces New Respite Care Programs

The Kolburne school Announces Respite Care Programs for the Emergency & Planned Care of Special Needs Children

New Marlborough, MA., April 15, 2011 The Kolburne School, a co-ed residential therapeutic facility and special education school for students ages 8-22 with a range of autism-spectrum, trauma and trauma-related, neuro-developmental, pervasive development, and psychiatric disorders, announces two new year-round respite care programs designed to provide temporary residential, therapeutic care to special needs children on either a planned or emergency basis.

Kolburne’s Planned Respite Care program makes it convenient and easy for families or caregivers to place a child in an appropriate therapeutic setting while they take a break or vacation. Kolburne’s Emergency Respite Care program is designed as a resource for hospitals and state agencies that need emergency and limited shelter placement for acute care children in transition.

During their stay, participants in the Respite Care programs reside in either group dorm housing on Kolburne’s 800-acre Woodfruff Campus, or in one of the residential group homes Kolburne operates in neighboring communities, and receive the appropriate level of 24-hour trained supervision, medical care, therapeutic support and academic/pre-vocation programming as required by their level of need and IEP. They also participate fully with their appropriate peer groups in the range of residential, academic, prevocational and recreational programs and activities Kolburne offers residents. The goal of the Kolburne Respite Care programs is to provide a safe, social, and fun experience in a therapeutic environment that focuses on the needs of the individual for the length of their stay.
