Kolburne’s co-educational residential program is designed for children and young adults, ages 8-22, diagnosed with a moderate-to-high but not severe autism-spectrum, trauma and trauma-related, neuro-developmental, pervasive developmental, or psychiatric disorder, and who would benefit from a therapeutic community and staff-secured residential care.
Admission Standards for Residential Placement
- Students between the ages of 8-22.
- Measured IQ level of Moderate MR or above.
- Assessed as being a low or moderate behavioral risk and being able to benefit from residential placement.
- May require ongoing and intensive specialized professional services, direct and consultative.
- Drug/alcohol free at time of admission and not in need of medical/non-medical detoxification. No primary substance abuse disorder.
- Students accepted into the program do not require ongoing medical intervention requiring the equivalent of a nursing care facility (24-hour nursing care). They may present with issues that are treatable on a short-term basis via Kolburne’s routine health care services.
- Requires low staff to student ratio (1:3 program level) and may need infrequent access to 1:1 services.
- Requires low student-to-staff classroom ratio (6:1:1).
